La Jolla Restaurants With Views
La Jolla is a gorgeous beach town! I especially love La Jolla Village…retail shops, restaurants, art, and of course the coastline is right there. So why not enjoy the view when you are dining out. Here is a list of staff picks for the best restaurants with views in La Jolla.
Best Views La Jolla Restaurants
Birdseye Rooftop Restaurant and Bar,
San Diego County is a hotspot for anyone who lives in Los Angeles. ETG writers Beatrice and Donny Anderson recommend Birdseye Rooftop Restaurant and Bar, located in the Cormorant Hotel. It offers sweeping views of La Jolla Cove. The couple has stayed at the hotel previously – find out more about the history of the Cormorant in our La Jolla CA Hotels article.
The restaurant offers some delicious salads. Beatrice says her favorite is the Cormorant salad (Spinach goat cheese, cranberries, almonds, pears and balsamic vinaigrette). She adds salmon as a protein, but shrimp and chicken are also available. The Caprese salad is another popular item. It is topped with basil pesto, tomato, mozzarella and aged balsamic
Her husband Donny chimed in saying that the tacos were his favorite. A choice of carne asada, carnitas, or shrimp is available. This dish is served with pico de gallo, serano aioli & cotija. Brockton Villa Restaurant
I have written about Brockton Villa Restaurant on ETG. It is an adorable establishment down close to the cove. It sits just above it on a second floor landing – a great place to catch the sunset. CLICK HERE to read about this San Diego Historical Landmark.
Olive & Basil
Another restaurant with a great view is a causal eatery called Olive & Basil. I spent the day shopping and enjoying the art of La Jolla, while my husband was off riding waves and taking photos. I literally stumbled upon it, as I was walking down towards the cove. It was the perfect place for a meet-up with my hubby who promised to be back soon. We reconnected there for lunch before heading further south on our roadtrip.
The Mediterranean Fusion restaurant has an outdoor patio with glass railings which enhanced the view. I arrived a bit early, relaxed and took in the amazing views. Once Rich showed up, we took our time together, while we shared our individual experiences from our solo morning adventures. It was a perfect place to unwind and discuss our plans for our upcoming afternoon car ride. The server did not rush us at all. We ordered the Bro Burger (Grass Fed Beef Burger, Arugula, Tomato, Onions, Bacon, Avocado, Provolone cheese, Brioche Bun). We also had the Gyros Plate with basmati rice and farmers vegetables. Both were excellent. Olive & Basil, 8008 Girard Avenue, Suite 220, La Jolla, California 92037; https://oliveandbasillajolla.com
Georges at the Cove
ETG writer Jimmy Cruz suggests Georges at the Cove as his pick for the best Restaurant with a view in La Jolla. “Why? because my wife loves it, and you gotta keep the wife happy!” The couple makes it a point to set up a romantic dinner on every trip they take. So, the ambience is truly important to them. Georges at the Cove has stunning views – the food is great too.
Wild Isles Salmon is one of their go-to dishes. It comes with peas, asparagus, king trumpet mushrooms, and a tartar-butter sauce. Another favorite is the Lobster Roll (Meyer lemon crème fraiche, tarragon, dill, fennel, brioche roll, house salad). For dinner – here are their two entree picks 1. Local Seared Rare Yellowtail (bok choy, roasted carrots, edamame puree, miso-citrus dressing, togarashi). 2. Prime Flat Iron Steak (creamed spinach, maitake mushrooms, marble potatoes, steak jus). According to Jimmy…Crème Brûlée (vanilla bean, makrut lime, strawberry puffed rice cereal bar) is a must for dessert.
The couple has dined at both the Ocean Terrace and Level 2. If you happen to be an art lover, you can admire a John Baldessari mural called – Brain/Cloud while enjoying your meal. The above photo is courtesy of the Murals of La Jolla* – see below for an article link about more Murals of La Jolla. They are both lovely dining environments. Level 2 tends to be a bit more serene and romantic, while the Ocean Terrace has more of a lively upbeat vibe due to the popular bar.
