CA: SoCal, Surfing

Surfing and California go together like pie and ice cream…think Gidget, the Beach Boys and Huntington Beach (now officially trademarked as Surf City). From the northern Mexican border to the southern Oregon border, California has some of the world’s best surf. Just ask Laird Hamilton, considered by some to be the world’s best surfer. He spends a lot of time in Malibu.

Then there’s Mavericks, an international big wave mecca right in the center of California wine country, Rincon near Santa Barbara, and an endless supply of easily accessible breaks all along the coast. If you’re a surfer, head to San Diego in early fall, pray for a south swell with Santa Anna winds and catch the rides of your life at Black’s Beach.
