Playa Del Carmen Airbnb Review

As we were arranging a trip to Mexico, we were looking for the most convenient accommodations in Playa Del Carmen. An Airbnb apartment turned out to be the perfect place for us. We had numerous activities planned including several day trips, so we expected to be inside primarily to sleep. Hence, we were also looking for a specific location, with easy access to buses, local transport, and the ferry. We needed a home base in between our many mini-trips in the area.

Our host, Maria Regina‘s apartment is listed on Airbnb, and it was less than a five minute walk from the main bus station. We took the ADO bus from the Cancun airport and were in our Airbnb less than an hour later. The apartment was also a hop, skip and a jump away from the ferry terminal to Cozumel. One of the things I was really looking forward to on this trip was scuba diving in the crystal clear water on the reefs of Cozumel island. So, being able to walk to the ferry terminal in a matter of minutes was fantastic.

The property was admittedly quite basic, but alas we so enjoyed the air-conditioning. It was filled with natural light and had everything we needed. There was a good size refrigerator, a cooktop and most importantly a coffee maker! Numerous stores and restaurants were close by, and anything we needed was only a few minutes away. To our surprise, it was actually quite peaceful. Despite all the action outside, the noisy clubs were far enough away that we did not even hear them.

From our home base, we were able to experience all the action on fifth Avenue with ease. We enjoyed the sunsets here, as the heat of the day gave way to a glorious ocean breeze. This included a fantastic restaurant with high quality indigenous food, a beachfront seafood bar and a killer ice cream shop.

In addition, we could walk right down to the famous Parque Los Fundadores any time we wanted. The setting by the water, near the huge iconic statue, was a perfect location for this wonderful performing art event.

When we heard the high pitched sound of a flute or the beating of a drum, we knew a culturally significant performance was underway. We stopped everything and headed towards the beach twice to check it out. Read more about this on the ETG article Arts & Entertainment in Playa del Carmen Mexico.

When it came time for us the visit Tulum, we walked about 15 minutes to the “collectivo” transportation hub. This is where many locals go to catch a small van ride to their jobs in the communities surrounding Playa Del Carmen. It all worked out great, and the location of Maria Regina’s Airbnb was perfect for our needs. She was also the most responsive and helpful host we could have imagined. Plus, she has it listed on Airbnb for a great price. If you expect to be on the go a lot during your visit, and location is important to you, this Airbnb is the one for you.
