Larry Gagosian has created an art empire with his nineteen international art galleries. His first gallery opened in 1980 in Los Angeles. He went on to open five galleries in New York City alone. Now Gagosian galleries can be found all over the world. Serious art collectors and investors keep a close eye on this gallery’s exhibitions for good reasons. https://gagosian.com

Hauser & Wirth is another international mega gallery with twenty two locations across the globe. It has two galleries in Chelsea as well as one in SoHo and one on the Upper East Side.

The gallery was originally founded in Zurich in 1992. In 2000, owners Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth and Ursula Hauser brought on Partner and President Marc Payot. Then in 2021, CEO Ewan Venters joined the team. No art lover’s visit to NYC is complete without a visit to Hauser & Wirth. The quality of the work they exhibit is second to none.

Hauser & Wirth is one of my all time favorite galleries. Not only do I adore the art they choose to exhibit, the gallery spaces are also amazing. Most of their locations are designed by well-known architects. Therefore, the buildings that house the galleries become works of art as well. You can find out more about this on the website. Hauser & Wirth’s NYC 18th Street location has introduced a dedicated space for Editions along with its flagship bookstore.

David Zwirner

Another NY gallery that has international locations is David Zwirner. He opened his first gallery in 1993 in SoHo NY. In 2002, he moved the gallery to Chelsea. Now gallery spaces are located in London, Hong Kong, Paris and Los Angeles along with more locations in NYC.

Another prestiges gallery, Lisson was founded in 1967 by Nicholas Logsdai. Its 504 and 508 West 24th Street locations are just under one of the high line’s entrance points. The gallery has locations in Los Angeles, London, Shanghai and Beijing. https://www.lissongallery.com
