Perry’s Fine Wines & Liquors Palm Springs
Perry’s Fine Wines & Liquors Palm Springs opened its doors in October 2024 at its new West Coast location. Owners Charlie Greener and Billy Marshall both share a love of wine and spirits, and they are always on the lookout for the unusual.
Unique Wines & Spirits in Palm Springs
I arrived at Perry’s Fine Wines & Liquors Palm Springs excited to experience a wine tasting at a very special place. Charlie and Billy are so endearing, and they really know their wine. They led me on a tour of the store and told me stories about how and when they discovered several wines as well as gins and other spirits.
Perry’s Fine Wines & Liquors Palm Springs location sells over 600 wines. To acquire and maintain their collection, Charlie and Billy work with over 45 brokers. The couple’s love of wine and spirits is quite apparent in the way they have meticulously curated their charming new shop.
“We love introducing new wines to our customers,” said Charlie. Billy chimed in “We also stock wines that we may not necessarily want to drink.” They went on to explain… they consider it important to carry wines for every palate. This guarantees there is always something special available for everyone’s individual preferences. Their goal is to make sure each bottle they stock is a standout in its category.
An Exceptional Wine Tasting Experience
After telling the duo “I love red wine,” they looked at each other with a slight smirk…as if to say “should we?” I finally figured out what that smirk meant, when I tasted the chilled red. Billy warned me that this Austrian rosé (Rózsa Petsovits) was quite unique, and boy was that true.
The wine took my mouth on an exciting roller coaster ride of flavors. Starting off light and fruity, then suddenly shifting to bolder more pronounced layers, it took my taste buds on a fantastic journey. To say my buds were confused would be an understatement. Wow, was the first thing that came out of my mouth. Then “what the heck?” was next. In addition to reminding me of a pinot noir, I tasted notes of cherry, pomegranate as well as red berries and a tinge of mint. Time stood still. I was fully engaged and present. This selection was pure delight.
Non Alcoholic Drinks
My husband soon joined us. Just as they were about to pour him a glass, he stopped them. My hubby explained, “I am our designated driver.” Billy suggested a non alcoholic cocktail and proposed a few options. Richard thought the Phony Negroni sounded great. No kidding, that was the name of the product. I had to steal a sip. It tasted like the real deal which is normally made with equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari. Richie loved it…so did I.
Next, I continued my wine tasting with a 2022 red from Corsica. The Rosumarinu Sant’ Armettu is made from Sciaccarellu grapes, a dark skinned grape primarily grown in Corsica France. The varietal is simply called Red Corsican Wine. Charlie told us it was named after the rosemary bushes growing in the mountains surrounding the vineyards of Domaine Sant Armettu. This was lovely with notes of strawberry and a peppery spice.
Finally, Ocho arrived for a taste. This Mexican 2021 Bruma Ocho Reserva Mezcla turned out to be my favorite. It is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Petit Sirah. The wine was earthy with hints of cranberry. The medium-bodied red offered a complex flavor profile with velvety mouthfeel. It was superb.
Special Wines
I had an incredible time tasting these delicious wines. It was a great pleasure getting to know more about Charlie and Billy as well as Perry’s Fine Wines & Liquors Palm Springs. There is nothing quite like having a passionately curated selection of wines and spirits to choose from. I have already told three of our friends who happen to be Palm Springs regulars about this excellent shop.
Billy and Charlie have a great backstory that you can read on their website. They continues to discover new additions as they travel and taste which keeps things exciting. I love the way Charlie put it “So many of the best moments in people’s lives happen when there is a glass in their hand as they toast. We want to be able to provide that special wine or spirit to make our customer’s important moments even more memorable.”
