Review: TAO, Uncasville Connecticut

Asian fusion has long been a favorite food for me. So naturally, when I heard Tao Group Hospitality had a restaurant near where I was staying in Connecticut, I made a reservation. I had dined a number of times at Tao New York and knew I would enjoy quality cuisine along with an elegant dining experience. Here is my review of TAO Uncasville Connecticut.

About Tao

Tao is housed in the Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort, along with some additional eateries to choose from (42 to be exact). Situated off the Mohegan Sun Sky Tower’s hotel lobby, the Connecticut 10,000 square foot location is adorned with the same zen inspired interior art and design as its New York counterpart.

Unfortunately my husband and ETG’s photographer (who brings his top-of-the-line camera and a fantastic light set-up to every restaurant we review), was back in Los Angeles. So I had to make do on my own.

Tao offers a broad range of Asian cuisine. The menu is broken down into – the Land, the Sea, the Sky dividing the various protein options. Dim sum is available as well as sushi, sashimi, noodles, rice dishes, entrees, and of course dessert.

Appetizers

Cocktails & Appetizers

I was dining that evening with my sister and brother-in-law. We kicked off our meal with some Ruby Red Dragon cocktails (Finlandia Grapefruit Vodka, Yuzu, Pomegranate). These were delicious…not too sweet, with a tiny kick of grapefruit pucker.

My brother-in-law raved about his Coiling Dragon (Toki Whisky, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Pandan Sugar, Orange and Plum Bitters). Since I did not want to mix liquors, I took his word for it. We ordered a nice selection of appetizers which included: Pork Potstickers (chili sesame glaze), Imperial Vegetable Egg Roll (wild mushroom, cabbage, snap peas), and Chicken Gyoza (pan fried or steamed, chili garlic sauce).

Hong Kong Fried Noodles

Noodles & Entrees

I love noodles…so I had to try the Hong Kong Fried Noodles (chicken. egg, mixed vegetables, roast pork), recommended by the waiter. He did not steer me wrong. The noodles and veggies were cooked just right. The flavors of the pork and chicken mingled together perfectly, and the mouth feel of the crunchy veggies took it up a notch. My sister ordered a vegetarian version of this as well, and she was quite happy with it. I did share some with my brother-in-law (the other meat-eater at the table), therefore I could partake in his entree. The Japanese Fried Chicken (togarashi, tonkatsu, wasabi honey) was stupendous. It had a brilliant crunch, and the sweet yet hot union of the honey and wasabi glaze was fabulous.

TAO Signature Dessert Platter

Dessert at TAO Uncasville Connecticut

It’s a good thing we did NOT forego the dessert, because it turned out to be glorious. TAO’s Signature Dessert Platter offers fresh berries, molten chocolate cake, doughnuts, and a giant fortune cookie which we proceeded to demolish. There was something for everyone. Yum!

If you have yet to dine at a Tao restaurant…I highly recommend it. TAO is located in Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville, CT 06382; https://taogroup.com/venues/tao-restaurant-mohegan-sun/
