Review: Stoke & Rye, Avon CO

My husband and I heard about a great restaurant in the Westin Riverfront Hotel in Avon Colorado. So, we were both excited to embark on a Stoke & Rye review. I love the hotel. It was artistically designed with paintings donning the walls. When you walk into the restaurant, the high-end elegance continues. The bar area is beautiful, with flower-inspired art lights suspended from the ceiling.

Refreshing & Lively

When we sat down, we were greeted by an affable gentleman pushing a roaming bar. I couldn’t resist and ordered one of the specials – a cocktail called Refreshing & Lively (24 Carrot Gold, 18 del Maguey mezcal, carrot shrub, jalapeño, lime, black lava salt, gold dust). This was a stunning looking drink, and it packed a punch – Yum!

Warm Buns

A warm cast iron pan with house made buns arrived at the table. The scrumptious rosemary & sea salt dinner rolls came with maple-butter which was also divine.

While we were munching on these fantastic buns, our waiter told us to visit the restaurant’s large patio. We decided to take a peek. It was so beautiful with several fire pits and an outdoor bar. It also featured a glorious view.

Appetizer

We decided to share an appetizer. The Grilled Octopus (castelvetrano & kalamata tapenade, frisée-cherry tomato salad, sautéed potato) was surprisingly good. I am not a huge fan of octopus, however this was tender and tasty.

Entrées

Next our waiter wowed us with a wondrous presentation. Both entrées were plated beautifully. The Pan Seared Scallops arrived in a cast iron pan along with vanilla-cauliflower purée, roasted asparagus, lemon beurre blanc. This was my selection, and I could not wait to dive in. My scallops were perfectly cooked and placed atop a throne of roasted asparagus. The vanilla-cauliflower purée was luscious…so good.

Of course my meat-loving hubby ordered the Braised Short Rib with potato au gratin, roasted parsnip, Brussel sprouts, veal glaze. I had to taste those Shorts Ribs. They looked amazing. After all, I am the one who writes the reviews. The meat was quite tender, as one expects from short ribs. I loved the veal glaze, on both the beef and the potato au gratin. I was shocked that my husband actually ate all the roasted parsnips, and Brussel sprouts. These were perfectly cooked and subtly seasoned. I was hoping I could finish them off. Apparently an exquisitely cooked vegetable can entice even the heartiest meat eater.

Desserts

We both have a sweet tooth, so we decided to try two desserts. The Bread Pudding came with Bourbon sauce, figs and vanilla ice cream. This was much lighter than many bread puddings. I really enjoyed the quality over quantity serving. The Bourbon sauce was what made this particular bread pudding so special for me.

The Maple Pecan Pie was very different than what I expected. It was tasty but not nearly as sweet as a traditional pecan pie. The salted caramel ice cream that accompanied the pie offered the perfect step up in sweetness however. I found that eating a bit of every element in each bite was the way to go. My husband loved this dessert and it was quickly devoured.
