The Chinese New Year is the most celebrated holiday of the year for approx. 1.5 million Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese people in Southern California. The e Lunar calendar determines the date of the LA Lunar New Year (as well as in any city). The Lunar New Year is a cultural tradition about giving thanks to our ancestors. Families come together to feast on New Year’s specialty cuisine. Firecrackers as well as traditional gifts add to the fun and excitement.ity to advertise itself as a land of progress and bounty.

After a hiatus due to Covid restrictions, the in-person parade is back with live performances from the Immortal Lion Dance Team, East Wind Foundation for Youth and Lion Dance, marching bands, dance troupes, music groups, and participation of government dignitaries, local business leaders, cultural groups, and much more. The parade is supported in part a rich and diverse experience for all ages and ethnicities across Los Angeles. It is supported in part by the District of Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles.
