Review: Fattoria, Vail Valley Colorado

While visiting Vail, my husband and I met up with a good friend for dinner. I had heard about this local at an Italian eatery called Fattoria in Vail Co, and was excited to review it. The Italian word translates to farm which is fitting since the restaurant is known for growing its own produce. The farm-to-table restaurant describes its food as authentic Italian Rocky Mountain cuisine. I was intrigued.

The restaurant is owned by James Pavelich, Has Noah Bender, and Steve Shelman. They also own Northside Kitchen and Benderz in Avon.

Surrounded by stunning views, the dining room was comfortable with an inviting fireplace. They also had a lovely bar, with a great selection of wine on display. While we were there, it got quite busy for a weekday evening.

Wine & Appetizer

We started with a bottle of the Jordan 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley. This delicious well balanced red offered notes of dark berry and cherry. In addition to a hint of vanilla, it also had a long stirring finish. We shared the Calamari appetizer. It was crispy & delightful with a bit of spice due to the pearl peppers. It came with a tasty primitive sauce for dipping.

Salads

Rich and I shared a Caesar Wedge (Romaine, grilled Roma tomato, parmesan crisp, crostini, olive tapenade, roasted garlic). This was plated beautifully with its parmesan crisp standing on its side. Our dining partner order the Insalata Fattoria (Ever-changing selection of Fattoria’s own and locally sourced vegetables, a sheep’s milk cheese). I did steal a taste.Yum!

Entrées

Soon our entrées arrived at the table. I ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese (Homemade pappardelle pasta in a veal, beef, and pork bolognese sauce). While our friend decided on the Beet Rigatoni (zesty Italian sausage, cherry tomatoes, tossed in a creamy mushroom sauce). We ended up sharing the pastas which were both excellent. There is nothing like homemade pasta. The Bolognese was exquisite. The pappardelle wrapped itself around the three meat sauce which was layered with flavor. The Beet Rigatoni was excellent as well. The pasta was red, with a satisfying chew, while it swam in a velvety cream sauce filled with luscious mushrooms. It had quite a kick due to the spicy sausage.

My husband couldn’t resist the Colorado Choice Angus Beef (grilled to your liking, served with port wine demi glace, grilled asparagus and gorgonzola compound butter). This was so tender, and I loved the gorgonzola compound butter on top. He is not a huge fan of asparagus, but once I started stealing them, he decided to give them a try. Before I knew it, he ate the rest!

Finally, we decide to share a chocolate Tiramisu. It was the perfect ending…just a few bites each. The lush mascarpone and cream added to the sweet ending of our meal. Be sure to pop in and try the cuisine of Fattoria. 48 East Beaver Creek Boulevard, Beaver Creek, Colorado 81620; https://fattoriavailvalley.com/
