There is nothing better than fine dining at a restaurant with one-of-a-kind cuisine, excellent wine pairing and top notch service. If you know me, you know I love food. Skadi

Chef Ian Algerøen opened Skadi in Mammoth Lakes on December 21, 1995. The restaurant’s ambiance and cuisine are inspired by the Ian’s Norwegian heritage. Then in January 2025, the restaurant moved to the Empeiria High Sierra Hotel. Two of ETG’s writers have dined at Skadi and have reported that the food and service is exquisite. Favorite dishes include: Pan Roasted Crispy Skin Salmon (lemon, brown butter, pine nuts, roast butternut squash, sage, fried capers and spinach), Thyme and Olive Oil Roast Chicken Breast (chanterelle and porcini mushroom, risotto cake and parmesan foam.) Another staff pick is the Grilled Choice New York Steak (Café De Paris butter, dauphinoise potatoes, caramelized onions and haricot vert.) Harmony

If you love Brazilian cuisine, you will definitely want to dine at Harmony in Mammoth. In addition to mouth watering Brazilian specialties, the restaurant serves excellent cocktails. Of course they are known for their steaks. A 24 oz boneless ribeye or a skirt steak are the most requested items on menu. The restaurant also hosts live music as well as themed dinners. Vulcania

Finally, Vulcania is one more staff pick. It is located in the Village at Mammoth and opened in early 2023. Two brothers – Michael Voltaggio and Chef Ryan Voltaggio are co-owners of Vulcania. They gained international fame, when they appeared on the Battle of the Brothers on Discovery Plus in June 2021.

Michael Voltaggio is the executive chef of Vulcania and a co-owner of several other restaurants. He received Food and Wine Magazine’s Best New Chef Award in 2013. Moreover, he has received a Michelin star. He has also been seen on Netflix, Bravo, the Food Network, as well as Bobby Flay’s Bobby’s Triple Threat. His brother, Chef Bryan Voltaggio, is the executive chef and owner of Thatcher & Rye, Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse and Volt Burger. Bryan has appeared on multiple cooking shows as well and is a James Beard Foundation Award finalist. 

Vulcania features traditional Italian cuisine with an updated twist. In addition to Italian comfort food such as Lamb Ravioli, Rigatoni, Pepperoni Pizza, and Margherita Pizza, their Braciole and Branzino (see pix above) are outstanding.
