Review: 2024 Hollywood Under the Stars
I was excited to attend the 2024 Hollywood Under the Stars benefit for Saint Vincent’s Meals on Wheels. This is one of my favorite annual fundraisers. I attended with my friend Robyn, and we had a blast. This fantastic nonprofit was founded in 1977 by Sister Alice Marie Quinn (Daughter of Charity). In 2017, Sister Quinn left this earth, however she made a huge impact in her lifetime. Under her leadership, St. Vincent Meals on Wheels became the largest privately funded Meals on Wheels program in America serving over 100,000 meals per month to LA’s homebound seniors in need.
2024 Hollywood Under the Stars

We started our culinary journey at an impressive seafood soiree in the VIP lounge, brought to us by PEZ COASTAL KITCHEN. Owner/Executive Chef Bret Thompson and co-owner Lucy Ramirez presented an elaborate spread. Fresh shucked oysters and massive shrimp (à la shrimp cocktail) dominated the offering, accompanied by wildly decorative scallops and oyster shooters. Next we headed to the main area, and we became immersed in the party atmosphere, due to the fantastic live music of the de Bois All Stars. The 10-piece band kept us hopping all evening.

Excellent Food
After indulging in this seafood feast, as well as chatting with some friends in the lounge, we decided to venture outside. Here, Robyn and I were enticed by an array of scrumptious savory bites. I immediately saw Nika Shoemaker-Machado, chef and owner of Georgia’s Restaurant, so I stopped to say hello. I just reviewed her Long Beach location and could not wait to indulge in more delicious fried catfish and sweet potato. CLICK HERE to read my review.
Next we enjoyed a Duck Carnitas Tostadas from City Club LA, an Arancini Bolognese from L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele, as well as a Crispy Lobster Cigar from Room Service Neighborhood. Angelini Osteria offered a tasty Lasagna Verde ‘Nonna Elvira.’

The Sweet Potato Curry by Alta Adams was really lovely. The sauce was exquisite. I was getting pretty full by this point. When I was just about too full for dessert…I wandered over to the impressive dessert section.
Then I saw another favorite of mine…Arth Bar + Kitchen provided two classic dishes, Butter Chicken with Rice as well as Chana Masala and Rice. Full disclosure – I love Arth + Kitchen. I reviewed it when it first opened a couple years back. CLICK HERE to read my review.

Some of the most popular desserts included Läderach Chocolatier Suisse, Bertha Mae’s Brownie Co, and Lark Cake Shop. Uncle Testsu also enticed us with Japanese cheesecake all boxed up and ready to be taken home. The flavors included original, oreo, ube, and cherry blossom. I especially loved the ube. It was a deep purple color and was so delicious. Robyn and I both took some home for our husbands.

Meals on Wheels Supporters
The fundraising event featured speakers who shared the amazing work Meals on Wheels does to help feed homebound local residents. News anchor Susan Hirasuna and actor/writer E-Kan Soon co-hosted the evening, along with honorees and Circle of Angels Donors Gwen Humble McShane and actor Ian McShane (American Star; John Wick: Chapter 4, Deadwood; Game of Thrones, etc).
The silent auction included an array of gift baskets along with a specialty two night stay at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.
What a night! As always, it was great to be a part of the event and to show support for such an important charity as St Vincent Meals on Wheels. Remember, this is a Los Angeles annual event. Support a great cause, while enjoying fabulous food, drink, as well as live music all night.
