Best Sunday Gospel Brunch in Harlem, NYC
Sunday Gospel Brunch in Harlem is one of the best things about Sundays in Harlem. The music is fantastic, and the soul food is amazing. If you love music, and you are visiting the Big Apple on a weekend…do yourself a favor, and take a trip up to Harlem. It is well worth it. The music and the soul food are both out-of-this-world.

Sylvia’s Restaurant
Founded in 1962, Sylvia’s Restaurant never disappoints. Owned and still run to this day by the Woods Family, it is known for its homestyle cooking. These days, it can be quite crowded. It has become a bit touristy, but the food is still exceptional. I stopped in on a weekend for Sunday Gospel Brunch and enjoyed music by singer Deborah Newallo with Shawn Smith on Piano. They were great. Sylvia’s Restaurant, 328 Malcolm X Blvd., New York, NY 10027; https://sylviasrestaurant.com

Another local favorite is Ginny’s Supper Club. Located under Marcus Samuelsson’s hit restaurant Red Rooster Harlem, Ginny’s offers an amazing gospel brunch. They feature Sing Harlem Choir with some of NYC’s most talented singers and musicians. I absolutely adore Chef Marcus Samuelsson. He is a huge supporter of the arts, so Ginny’s location under Red Rooster is not by chance. I have dined at two of Samuelsson’s NYC restaurants. Red Rooster Harlem
On Sundays, you can enjoy two options for live music at the same physical location. Upstairs at Red Rooster, every Sunday, the Nate Lucas Band performs. When I stopped in, Lettrice Arlene was the featured vocalist. She was magnificent. While partaking in this fabulous musical show, customers will enjoy Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s signature cuisine. Yum!

However, for the full Sunday gospel brunch experience, make a reservation at Ginny’s Supper Club downstairs at Red Rooster Harlem. A delicious buffet is available here to go along with the uplifting music. Sing Harlem Choir and the fabulous cuisine will bring a little bit of heaven to your soul and your tummy. You may recognize the name of this group from the hit NBC-TV show America’s Got Talent. The group performed on AGT in its 17th season. Sing Harlem was created by TV and radio personality/playwright Vy Higginsen. She co-wrote, produced and directed the musical Mama I Want To Sing! The musical played over 2,200 performances at the Off-Broadway Heckscher Theater in East Harlem.
I am a huge fan of Chef Marcus. I reviewed Red Rooster a few years back – CLICK HERE to read.

Brunch Harlem

One more great place to enjoy live music is Brunch Harlem. B² Harlem, also known as B²runch Harlem, was opened by Adriane Ferguson and Joseph Morris in 2016. The restaurant offers brunch all day long. Now who doesn’t like that? Here you can enjoy an excellent brunch upstairs in the main dining room. Then, head downstairs to Room 623 for some spectacular jazz from local and international musicians. The downstairs speakeasy was opened in 2018 by Adriane Fergusson and jazz singer/songwriter Marcus Goldhaber. The two joined forces to create this now popular one-of-a-kind speakeasy. NYC has always attracted the most passionate musicians, artists and creatives. In Harlem, you can be a few feet away from an Emmy winning musician at one of these brunches. Then, the following evening you may see them performing in front of thousands at one of NYC’s many iconic venues.
