Review: Dudleys NYC

Review & Photography by Kelsey Sheppard – Stepping into Dudleys NYC was the perfect escape from a gray spring afternoon. We were welcomed into the slate toned gastro pub by Taylor, our host. He, along with our wonderful servers Lucy and Maggie, guided us through the menu and also made some excellent suggestions. The restaurant has been an Orchard street staple since 2012. It was our first time in, so we were grateful for the helping hand!

Cocktails and Bites

Naturally, we started with drinks. Kathy ordered a Pinot Noir (Nicolas Idiart, Loire Valley, France). She loved it. The medium bodied red offered notes of raspberry, cherry as well as a hint of vanilla. I ordered the Pineapple Skies (as a cocktail gal, myself). It was delightful. The mezcal paired beautifully with crisp pineapple, lemon, tart passion fruit, and also warm cinnamon on the rim. I immediately bookmarked Dudleys as a great LES cocktail spot for future adventures. However, this afternoon, we came for the food.

The daytime menu was diverse, offering brekkie fare, salads and bowls, rich pastas, and pub classics galore. We decided to start off with Olives & Haloumi (Gaeta + Castelveterano olives) to share. The salty chewy halloumi was tasty complement to a variety of olives. A nice dish to share for the table, or alongside cocktails at the bar.

Next, we tried the Crispy Rice Salad. This did not disappoint. Crispy pops of rice act like croutons amongst a bed of peppery arugula. In addition, there’s refreshing cucumber, radish, pickled red onions and cherry tomatoes, all topped off with a fried egg and a rim of spicy aioli. I love how the yolk drizzled out mingling with the salad. We both kept going back for bite after delicious bite.

Fried Chicken Sandwich

We then enjoyed the Fried Chicken Sandwich (pickles, spicy mayo, coleslaw, sesame seed bun) with a side of Truffle Fries. The crunchy and moist fried chicken, topped with coleslaw and briny pickles, was nestled inside a spicy mayo slathered sesame bun. You’ll want an extra napkin for this one, but all the flavors pair together beautifully. The truffle fries were excellent, with noticeable shavings of parmesan and also truffle liberally strewn atop.

Truffle Pasta

The pièce de résistance was the Winter Truffle Tagliatelle (shaved Winter truffle, parmesan, cream). When this dish arrived at the table, adorned with paper thin truffle slices, both of our eyes went wide. Truffle was present in every single bite of the creamy and perfectly al dente pasta. I wanted to eat the entirety of this dish, impolitely lick the plate, and slowly ascend into truffle heaven. Thankfully, my now full belly wouldn’t permit it. This dish was RICH; definitely one to share with a fellow truffle lover (or two).

Chocolate Pot

Before venturing back out into the gray skies (far less exciting than the Pineapple ones of my cocktail) we enjoyed the Chocolate Pot. This was a simple chocolate mousse topped with whipped cream as well as crunchy chocolate pearls.

Dudleys offers a delectable menu that will suit many a different diner. This cozy chic Australian corner pub and bistro would be a perfect spot to grab cocktails, enjoy a bright and tasty brunch, or indulge in a rich pasta dinner.
