Red Rocks Park Amphitheatre

Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre is not just a park that houses one of the most beautiful outdoor amphitheaters in the world, it is a unique transitional zone where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains. Also known as Denver Mountain Park, it is owned and maintained by the city of Denver as part of the Denver Mountain Parks system. This expansive 738 acre park unveils a panorama of deer, pines, prairies, and geological marvels. At an elevation of 6,450 feet, Red Rocks Park offers many hiking trails with a distinctive environment showcasing the flora and fauna of both regions. My husband Rich Bilow (co-founder of ETG), was on a hike, and this beautiful doe showed up to say hi.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre stands as a geological marvel, boasting the world’s only naturally occurring, acoustically flawless amphitheater. From legendary artists like Sting and The Beatles to U2 and opera stars, the stage exudes magic and emotion, making it a global artistic aspiration.

History of Red Rocks Park

Red Rocks Amphitheatre has a unique history starting wit its construction in 1936 through the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). This ambitious project aimed to conserve both land and livelihoods during the Great Depression. Its completion stands as a testament to both architectural and natural wonder. Burnham Hoyt’s visionary design, supported by CCC workers, sculpted this masterpiece into what it is today. The project used 800 tons of quarried stone as well as 30,000 pounds of reinforced steel.

Today, Red Rocks Park, crowned a National Historic Landmark in 2015, continues its legacy as an awe-inspiring haven. The Visitor Center, a hub of education and engagement since 2003 offers a variety of historic and up-to-date info. It also hosts periodic art exhibits. Each year, the Red Rocks Hall of Fame commemorates artists who’ve left an indelible mark on the amphitheater.

The park’s allure also extends to its public art, a testimony to Denver’s commitment to artistic enrichment. Adorned with the City’s Public Art Collection, Red Rocks showcases Denver’s Public Art Program’s essence.
