Hawaii: Kauai Happy Hours with a View

Happy Hours are a great way to try out restaurants without spending a bundle. Restaurants such as the Beach House offer a gorgeous view and a great happy hour menu.  Be sure to order a Monkeypod Mai Tai (old lahaina dark rum, old lahaina light rum, fresh lime juice, house-made macadamia nut orgeat, orange curacao, honey-lilikoi foam).

Offering an eclectic variety of dishes, we chose Poke Tacos, Szechuan Stir-Fry Green Beans, Pork Potstickers and House Cut Fries. The tacos (my husband’s favorite) were fresh, and the tuna just melted in my mouth. The green beans, which were bathed in a sweet Asian sauce, kept their crunch and were paired with macadamia nuts. The potstickers were delicious, with an unexpected kick of habanero. Other HH items included: Pumpkin Ravioli, Lobster Deviled Eggs, Braised Pork Belly, and lots more. Oasis on the Beach (on the east side of the Island) offers incredible views as well. You are practically sitting right on the beach. Situated within the Waipouli Beach Resort in Kapaa, this happy hour features tapas style food, sliders and more, with discounted prices on beer and wine, plus half off on signature cocktails. If you are looking for a great deal…Kalapaki Joes is the place to be…. a sports bar that serves up some tasty grub. The prices are unbelievable. This happy hour features one-dollar shrimp tempura, plus three-dollar fish tacos (two) and chicken wings for twenty-five cents a-piece. Needless to say, we ate a lot of these…they were fantastic.

Brennecke’s Beach Broiler, another sports bar, offers basic bar food and cocktails. The dining experience here is more about the second-story view of the coastline. You are best to order beer or wine here, nothing special with these cocktails. I was not impressed with the food either, but the coconut shrimp was good.
