Review: La Bocana Beach Club, Loreto Mexico

La Bocana Beach Club is the newest addition to Marina Puerto Escondido in lovely Loreto Mexico, Baja California Sur. Brought to us by the owners of Romanita Baja Kitchen, the spectacular positioning of the restaurant creates a dining experience akin to having an intimate rendezvous.

La Bocana Beach Club’s View

Like Romanita, it too has an open air layout. However, this location offers something truly magical. Situated right on the water’s edge, it boasts expansive views of the sea, the Baja Peninsula and Isla Danzante just offshore. The majestic and tranquil setting is hypnotic. It is like a living theatre of natural beauty unfolding before your eyes.

As soon as we entered, I stopped to catch my breath and marvel at the stunning view. It was breathtaking. I also immediately relaxed. I was ready for a special union of libations, cuisine and gorgeous surroundings. It all made for a very romantic dinner with my honey.

Time for Cocktails

We met up with Chief Operating Officer Deanna Lyn who let us know her menu recommendations. Of course, we started with her namesake specialty margarita.“The Deanna” is a new take on the traditional Cadillac (Don Julio Reposado, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and a splash of mango, finished with a Tajin rim). This was divine. It was sweet, yet offered the ideal tang that mingled with the two liquors. The addition of the mango and Tajin made the drink pop and created a refreshing and innovative margarita.

My husband chose not to drink alcohol this evening and ordered a Watermelon “No” Jito 165. As always, I enjoyed a sip. I was impressed. It was made with fresh watermelon, lemon, basil and a splash of mineral water. The watermelon was pure and naturally sweet, while the lemon refined the flavor palate creating a revitalizing delicate balance. Soon Deanna would leave us in the hands of a very capable server named Oscar.

Appetizers

Our first appetizer was the Burrata & Tomato which included a full salad, Buffalo Burrata, prosciutto and sprouts. The sweet balsamic glaze was an excellent addition, and the burrata was was so velvety. This was a phenomenally fresh dish and a superb way to start our meal.

Next, the Green Ceviche wowed us with its fresh sea bass. The herbaceous green sauce served as a lake of flavor for the buttery fish. I ended up toppling the pile of zesty flaky fish to be engulfed by the lush surrounding sauce. Additionally, the avocado and pickled onions enhanced the dish further both visually and on the palate.

The Entrées

Soon Oscar presented us with the main attractions. The BBQ Ribs were to die for. The moist meat simply fell off the bone. The sauce was both tangy and sweet – a comforting companion slathered across the tender carne. The delectable crunchy shoe string fries and creamy coleslaw added an unexpected (American Southern) down home vibe to the dish.

The Lobster Tail was phenomenal. It was perfectly cooked and displayed handsomely. The lobster was succulent and sweet with a wonderful savory brine. The dish was adorned with a splendid range of colors. Adjacent to the lobster was a brightly colored carrot and ginger puree laid out like a runway for the flight my tastebuds would soon embark on. The entree also included some tasty baby zucchini, carrots, and asparagus. The carrot and ginger puree was heavenly, as it uplifted the character of the lobster. It also went well with the mini-veggies.

Dessert

Now who can turn down Chocolate Flan? Not me. This was stupendous. The light creamy dessert was so silky and flavorsome. It was drizzled with scrumptious caramel and chocolate. Moreover, it was simply yet elegantly plated. My taste buds went home very happy that night.

I must say the setting and view became a vital and stirring participant in this culinary adventure. Hence between the fabulous food, the surrounding mountains, the water, as well as the open air setting, this made for a very special memorable meal.

Don’t hesitate to visit La Bocana Beach Club and treat yourself to an unbelievable dining experience. After all, you deserve it. The drive from Loreto Centro is just about twenty five minutes.
