Review: The Globe’s Swan Restaurant, London England

Review Swan Restaurant at the Globe Theatre
Just before attending a performance of Troilus and Cressida at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, we were scheduled to review the Swan Restaurant located at the theatre. We were welcomed by Kevin the manager who sat us at an incredible table. It was situated in the corner of the room with a gorgeous city backdrop behind us. The inside of the restaurant was so charming, and the view of the River Thames was stunning. As the night blanketed the city, the lights slowly twinkled on outside and the dining room became more and more cozy.

I had heard about its sweeping views and excellent cuisine. The view was indeed amazing, and I would soon find out the reputation of delicious food was true as well. Maria our server arrived at our table. She was attentive, knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the menu. I began with a glass of the Star & Vine Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon. The full-bodied red offered notes of dark berries with a tinge of vanilla and oak.
Appetizers
Our starter was warm London Sourdough with Somerset butter. Then we enjoyed a Burrata appetizer. In addition to being beautifully plated, with an ornate patten on its outside, the Burrata was excellent. Firm on the outside and so creamy inside, the delicate cheese was served with seaweed crackers and red wine poached pear. I fell head over heels over the wine soaked pear – yum!

Corn-fed Chicken
For our entrees we ordered Corn-fed Chicken and the Mushroom Risotto Ball. These were both exquisite and presented so artistically. The chicken was tender and bathed in a creamy peppercorn sauce. I particularly loved the truffle gnocchi. Plus the oyster mushrooms were so delicious, and the smattering of parsley brioche crumb was delightful.

Mushroom Risotto Ball
The mushroom risotto dish was a work of art! The huge ball looked majestic as it sat on a throne of quince aioli like a mighty King, while autumn fruits lounged around the plate or court as it would seem. I especially enjoyed the risotto in conjunction with the quince aioli. It offered a glorious garlic flavor with a hint of citrus. This merged especially well with the umami earthiness of the risotto.

Soon we realized Troilus & Cressida would be starting soon at the Theatre, so we skipped dessert and started to gather our things. Kevin was back to escort us to the show, and he even brought additional cocktails for us to take into the theatre. Unlike Broadway, the Brits allow food and drink into their theaters. I always loved that. We had an amazing meal at the Swan Restaurant. If you are visiting London, you should definitely partake in a meal here. Or, better yet have dinner and attend a show. Make a night of it. The restaurant also offers afternoon tea. The views alone are incredible, but I can now attest that the cuisine, and service are also exceptional.
