Review, Runway Playa Vista LA, Sol Cocina’s Happy Hour

Runway Playa Vista became a popular area of Playa Del Rey, California in 2018…chock full of restaurants, shops and a Whole Foods. I love spotlighting restaurants that offers a happy hour. SOL Cocina, a Mexican restaurant has an incredible one. The restaurant features the cuisine of the Baja region of Mexico.

Sol Cocina Happy Hour

Who can resist have a margarita with a Mexican meal? However, I decided to try the skinny margarita…so that I could save more of my calories for the food. I started with the less caloric cocktail first, but then moved on to the house margarita. Both were tasty, although the latter was especially delicious and included orange juice, SOL’s house-made sour mix (Agavales Blanco), and a splash of Patron Citronge. Perhaps, I should have switched the order…because let’s face it, once the first margarita hits you…everything else tastes better.

We decided to try almost all of the items on happy hour. It turned out to be an exquisite Mexican feast with the Hot and Raw Ceviche served with sweet potato and beet chips, along with the Guacamole Sol, Grilled Sweet Corn, and Shrimp Cucarachas. All of these dishes were fantastic. The ceviche was fresh and delightful. The guacamole was created at the table and incorporated unusual touches such as mango, tequila and goat cheese. The corn was spicy and savory, also cut and served right at the table. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, and prepared with a delicate nuance of spice.

The Carne Asada Tacos were delicious. Fully loaded with pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, etc., we also ordered the Queso Vampiro Taco (not on the happy hour). This was also exception. It offered all of the above ingredients, plus an additional layer of cotixa cheese between two corn tortillas.

The dinner was wonderful, and I will definitely be returning. SOL Cocina Playa Vista is located in the Run way at Playa Vista, 12775 W. Millennium, Suite 160, Playa Vista, 90094; (424) 289-0066; http://solcocina.com
