Paying it Forward with Ellen Degeneres!

Ellen DeGeneres has used her fame to make a difference. In addition to rewarding people who pay it forward, she has always encouraged all of us to be kind to one another via her long running television show Ellen. She has made her mark on the world in such a positive and uplifting way. Throughout the years, Ellen has talked about the work of Dian Fossey for years, and has since put together a stunning tribute to her hero with the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.

As a lover of animals, Ellen has adopted many rescue kitties as well as pups. Thanks to her wife Portia de Rossi, who surprised her with an amazing birthday gift in 2018. The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund was established to support global conservation efforts for critically endangered species. It officially opened in 2022. The ecologically-friendly campus is spread across 12 acres with over 50,000 square feet of building space. Situated adjacent to Volcanoes National Park, its purpose is to continues the mission of the Fossey Fund. 

Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund

Building a permanent home for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund was the first initiative of the Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund.This project will permanently secure the future of wild gorillas in Rwanda by building on successful field conservation efforts, while empowering the people living near the gorillas to thrive in relationship to their own ecosystem.

The Cindy Broder Conservation Gallery reveals the history of the mountain gorilla, as well as the fascinating story of Dian Fossey. The conservationist has accomplished so much in her lifetime. She made a huge impact on the gorilla population nearly doubling its numbers, since Fossey first began.

In 1967, Dr. Dian Fossey founded the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda’s Virunga mountains to protect and study the endangered mountain gorillas. In 1985, Fossey’s life was cut short, and believed to be murdered by poachers. However, her work lives on in the people and programs of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. It’s continuing conservation success story.
