Review: Artemis Mediterranean Grill

After enjoying a day on the South shore of Lake Tahoe, we headed to Artemis Mediterranean Grill for a scheduled review. Owners Angela and Brian Luke opened the first Artemis in Tahoe in 2010. Then a second location Artemis Lakefront Cafe was opened. And finally, they expanded to Texas in 2019.

Artemis Mediterranean Grill Review

At first glance, Artemis Mediterranean Grill is an unassuming casual eatery. However, once inside, it was wam and inviting. Happy locals were enjoying themselves, as we were greeted by Lily the manager, a friendly young woman who clearly enjoys her job. She answered all our questions about the menu and gave us some great suggestions. I kicked off the meal with a glass of Castle Rock Pinot Noir. The medium bodied red offered notes of blackberry with a tinge of strawberry. My husband ordered a Pomegranate iced tea which was quite tasty as well.

Greek Appetizers

Lilly suggested a Mezze Platter appetizer which was an amazing spread of delicacies. The dish featured falafel, dolmas, hummus, babba Ghanoush, tzatziki and tabbouleh, as well as pita bread, olives, and pepperoncinis. Everything was delicious. This would be an excellent dish to share for 4 people. It had something for everyone. My husband loved the falafel, crispy yet tender inside, while I just adored the babba ghanoush. The smokey creamy flavor had the perfect amount of lemon. The herbaceous tabbouleh was so fragrant and savory. It was elevated by a hint of mint as well as just the right amount of lemony tartness. Both my husband and I enjoyed the humus which was excellent.

Lily also brought a half order of fried pickles. Since my husband is not a pickle fan, they were all mine. They came with the signature Artemis dipping sauce. These were exceptional. The beer batter coating gave them the perfect crunch. Combined with the tang of the dill pickle, this was definitely for me. The dipping sauce mingled with the pickles and made for a lip smacking appetizer.

Entrees

The Mezze Platter itself was enough for dinner. Then our eyes widened as two more flamboyant dishes arrived at our table. The Feta and Spinach Stuffed Chicken Breast entree was so colorful. Two large chicken breasts were drenched in sun-dried tomato lemon cream sauce which brought gorgeous hues of red to the dish. It also came with an aromatic delicious apricot almond saffron rice pilaf and more yummy tabbouleh.

We just had to sample the classic Greek dish –  Gyros Plate (strips of rotisserie lamb, Greek salad, pita bread, tzatziki and feta). Just like all of the other platters, the portion was huge. The zesty rotisserie lamb went so well with the refreshing salad with feta, while the tzatziki created a pop of coolness on my palate.

Dessert

As always, it is hard to stop eating when the cuisine is so good, but Lily warned us a fabulous dessert was coming. And boy was she right. The Chocolate Galaktoboureko was simply out-of-this-world. Delicate layers of phyllo were filled with an intense chocolate semolina custard. In addition, it was topped with house-made cinnamon whipped cream and honey. This was a work of art…a stunning presentation with drops of honey surrounding the enticing pastry.

What a great dinner! If you love Greek food, Artemis Mediterranean Grill will surprise your tastebuds. Be sure to stop by the lakefront location. Get there early. This location tends to get very busy. Artemis, 2229 Lake Tahoe Blvd Suite A, South Lake Tahoe  CA  https://www.artemismediterraneangrill.com
