Himark Hotel

South Lake Tahoe does not have a shortage of lodging. Nature lovers have been flocking to this California gem for over 100 years. By the 1950s, tourism in South Lake had fully blossomed. Gambling was introduced in the 40s, and skiing was in full swing by the 60s. Finding a quality hotel along with some special amenities close to the action is always a top priority for me. So, for our most recent visit we chose the newly dubbed HiMark Hotel located just a few blocks from Heavenly Village and the casinos.

HiMark Hotel

Previously a Holiday Inn, it was renamed in early April 2026. Daniel Ramsey of Play Park Hospitality has added HiMark, along with the Station House Inn to his portfolio in recent years. My husband and I had a chance to stay at both of these properties while visiting South Lake. I even had the chance to take a tour with Mitchell Murray the CEO of Play Park Hospitality as well as General Manager Brandon Crudup.

HiMark Hotel, the Renovation

Mitchell explained the new vision for the hotel and helped me understand why the transformation makes sense. Play Park Hospitality will be converting the HiMark into a full-service wellness retreat, an oasis in this glorious historic location. Once completed, it will be perfect for rejuvenation after a long day on the slopes, on the lake or in the mountains. Amenities such as a spa with massage tables, a cold plunge, sauna, and a hot tub…all offering restoration. The gym will feature free weights as well as cardio machines and other fitness equipment.

The lobby will be expanded and upgraded with comfy sofas and chairs surrounding the fireplace. A larger kitchen and dining room will provide guests with healthy meals on site.

The renovation is scheduled to begin in the latter part of 2026 and will take place in stages. The HiMark Hotel will remain open and fully functional during this process, and guests will be able to partake in the newest amenities as soon as they become available.

Another great thing about the HiMark that won’t change is the staff and its camaraderie along with customer outreach.

Prior to arriving, I had called and made arrangements to leave my bags before checking in. My husband was going straight to Heavenly Mountain Resort to catch the final day of the season. He was on another “Shoot n’ Shred” photography mission. So, we would get to South Lake several hours before check in. I spoke with Erica at the front desk. She was warm and incredibly helpful. When I walked in, she welcomed me and gave me some info about the area. She took my bags, and off I went to enjoy Heavenly Village. When I returned, I met more amiable employees. Then I headed to my room.

Room Review

As soon as I walked in, I was taken aback by how nice our room was. After all, it is scheduled to be renovated. I can only imagine how amazing it will be after the transformation is complete.

The room was quite large with a two-sided fireplace. One side was by the bed, and the other side was by the large jacuzzi bathtub. We used both the fireplace and the jacuzzi every night.

I also loved that the room had a large vanity area with two sinks. Needless to say, the refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker were all added benefits that were used daily.

Finally, I have to mention that the bed was so comfortable. I especially loved the pillows. They were soft and had lots of give. I usually bring my own pillow, because I am so particular. However, these were perfect. I wish they sold them.

A Bright Future

After spending a little time with Mitchell and then Brandon it felt like I was staying with family. These two genuinely understand the meaning of hospitality. I could tell the future of the HiMark Hotel is in good hands. I look forward to staying at the renovated wellness retreat in the future.
