If you are a hot dog fan, and have visited Denver, you probably already know about Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs. Created by Jim Pittenger, the undisputed Gourmet Dog King of Denver (as he likes to call himself), has become a well known hot dog chef. He has reimagined the all American hot dog by grilling exotic game meat, then adding unusual toppings.
He gained notoriety from appearances on Anthony Bourdain’s show “No Reservations,” in addition to numerous cooking shows for The Food Channel and Netflix. His famous weiners have been recognized in countless Top-10 lists around the country.
Here’s the story. After a visit to his home state Alaska, he was inspired to recreate one of his favorite hot dogs that he grew up eating – Alaskan Reindeer. He decided that the residents of Denver deserved a unique spin on the hot dog…and the rest is history. It all began with one hot dog cart, and has grown into a dog empire. You can sample these dogs at Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs 2148 Larimer Street, Denver, CO 80205; Coors Field, 2001 Blake St, Denver, CO 80205; Mile High Stadium, 1701 Bryant St, Denver, CO 80204; and at various cart locations – visit the website for info.
Jim explained that Biker Jims’ has got something for everyone – “there’s a meatless dog made with adobo-spiced pinto beans.” There are many standard hotdogs, as well as other favorites include a bacon wrapped beef dog, chicken peach chipotle, and German Veal.
This famous weiner joint offers up every type of dog you can imagine…a wild boar, ostrich, even a rattlesnake and rabbit (don’t tell ETG’s owner Kathy, she adores bunnies). The famous elk-jalapeño-cheddar dog topped with cream cheese and caramelized onions was featured on the TALK on CBS-TV.
