Iceland: View the Northern Lights

A Nordic island nation, Iceland was formed from volcanic eruptions on the Mid-Atlantic ridge. Home to volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields, it took over 24 million years for Iceland to be formed. Its enormous glaciers are protected in Vatnajökull and Snæfellsjökull national parks. More than 10% of Iceland is covered by glaciers.

Iceland is one of the best places to view the northern lights (aurora borealis), a natural phenomenon created when particles emitted by the sun interact with the atmosphere in the Earth’s magnetic field. The release of energy, creates a spectacular light show in the sky.
