If you want to take a trip out of the city, the Eastern Sierras are a popular destination. Big Pine is one small town on the way to Mammoth, and a great place to stop for lunch, dinner or an over night stay.

Country Kitchen, Big Pine, CA

Here are some of our favorite eateries: Country Kitchen is located on Highway 395 in Big Pine, CA. Serving up some great breakfast items, and comfort food, it attracts tourists and travelers headed to Mammoth Mountain. Enjoy Taco Tuesday with carne asada, pollo asada, pork chili verde, shrimp and fish tacos!  If you happen to be traveling via an RV, or camper, take advantage of the large parking lot. Country Kitchen is open everyday 7am – 8pm. Country Kitchen, 181 N Main St, Big Pine, CA 93513; (760) 938-2402; https://www.facebook.com/countrykitchen395

Close by…Coppertop BBQ has become a massive foodie sensation. One would think it was a swanky LA restaurant considering the number of people standing in line. Coppertop BBQ has made quite a name for itself and is owned by father/son team Hank and Matthew Otten.

Copper Top BBQ

The sauce alone is outstanding — a smoky sweet yet savory blend — that clung to the tender meat as it melted in my mouth. I stopped in with my husband and we ordered the Big Pine sampler platter (Tri-Tip, two Pork Ribs and a quarter chicken) which was delicious and more than enough for both of us…it’s is definitely worth the wait. Of course the Rossi’s Place is the local bar restaurant. It is a great hangout and pizza place where the residents of Big Pine gather offering wings, and other finger foods. Chicken Sandwiches, salads and other staples are on the menu as well. I have dined here and enjoyed a “build your own pizza” – delicious!
